MiFILE Filer Blog Introduction

This is the first in a series of articles for filers to the MiFILE system.  Filers generally fall into 1 or more of the following categories:

  1. Attorneys and their staff that work on cases in a Michigan trial court.  Michigan attorneys must have a State of Michigan bar number.  Out of state attorneys should review the rules for Pro Hac Vice Admission on the State Bar website.
  2. Other individuals that wish to file to a Michigan trial court.
  3. Government agencies that wish to file to a Michigan trial court.

If you are a new filer, we have some resources on the New Filer page that should help you get started.

SCAO Help on Reducing MiFILE Notifications

MiFILE Michigan's Statewide E-Filing Initiative

Improvements to Expect in Coming Months

The MiFILE team has received feedback regarding the number of emails generated during filing submission. We are working on a number of improvements to this process. The focus over the next few months is to:

  • Increase training regarding notification settings, including recommendations. See below message for details;
  • Improve defaults for new filers and clarification on notification setting descriptions;
  • Remove statuses and emails that appear to be repetitive;
  • Improve content in email notifications.

Adjusting Personal Settings

The system does generate an email for every status for each filing. However, as a filer, you have the ability to adjust your personal settings. As the graphics below depict, simply click on “Settings” under “Main Pages” in the navigation pane and expand the “Notification Settings” pane.

Notification Settings Overview

The emails related to each notification setting are listed below. Each Email is based on a change to the status of the filing in MiFILE. We are working to clarify this on the site. In the meantime, here is some information that may be helpful to determine which emails you would like to receive. We recommend receiving emails for the last two options: 1) When a Filing is marked as “Filed” and 2) When a Filing is marked as “Rejected”.

Setting Emails (current)
When my documents are received by the Court In Progress – The filing was submitted to the Clerk for review. The Clerk will either accept or reject it.

When a Payment transaction occurs Paid –The selected payment account has been charged for the submitted filing, and a receipt is available.

Payment Declined – Payment failed.

When a Filing is marked as “Filed”

Case Created –The filing has been accepted by the Clerk, and a case number has been created.

Filed- Filed – The filing has been accepted by the Clerk.

When a Filing is marked as “Rejected”

Payment Declined – Payment failed.

If you want to be notified via text message, your contact information must include a validated mobile phone number.

We appreciate your patience during the transition.

3rd Circuit Goes Live on MiFILE – February 5, 2018

The 3rd Circuit Court (Wayne) went live with the new MiFILE system on February 5, 2017.  MiFILE includes the new TrueFiling 3.0 platform, along with enhancements to the court’s internal workflow system.  This release allows e-filing of Civil and Criminal case types.

Here’s are some pictures of the MiFILE team performing last minute testing in the training room at the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center.

3rd Circuit Transition Announcement from SCAO

Message sent to filers from SCAO on 1/30/2018:

As previously announced, on Monday, February 5, 2018, the 3rd Judicial Circuit Court e-Filing program will be transitioned to MiFILE, Michigan’s statewide e-Filing program sponsored by the State Court Administrative Office (SCAO).  MiFILE utilizes TrueFiling, a 24×7 web-based e-File and e-Service solution for courts, law firms, attorneys, and self-represented filers.  Following are details about what to expect during this transition.

  • Electronic filing for the 3rd Judicial Circuit Court with Tyler Odyssey File and Serve will be unavailable starting at 4:30 PM Eastern Time on Friday, February 2, 2018.  There will be no e-filing capability between 4:30 PM, Friday, February 2 and 8:00 AM, Monday, February 5. Documents submitted prior to 4:30 PM on February 2 will be processed in their usual fashion.
  • You will have view-only access to your Tyler Odyssey File and Serve account and filings (https://mi-tjc.tylerhost.net/) until April 2, 2018. Please note: After Friday, February 2 at 4:30 PM, you will no longer be able to file documents using this link.  All new filings must be submitted using MiFILE beginning February 5, 2018.
  • This change requires all users register with the new MiFILE system.  With your MiFILE account, you will need to create service contacts for your 3rd Circuit cases. The service contacts you created in Tyler Odyssey File and Serve will NOT transfer to MiFILE. You must add yourself in MiFILE as a service contact for each and every one of your 3rd Circuit cases. Failure to do this may result in you not being served via MiFILE.
  • If you have not yet attended a MiFILE training session, you may register here. Videos and guides are available as a supplement to training on the MiFILE Resources page.
  • For technical questions or support, please call 855-959-8868 or e-mail Support@TrueFiling.com.
